Feedback And Reviews
Dani read my pages closely and went over them with me. She had excellent suggestions, and was very easy to talk to over Zoom. She also has a super cute Aussiedoodle!
Although short it was very informative. We discussed my query for my story Torpidty. I had too much information and Ms Bishop explained how to cut it down and make it more concise. I appreciate her help and would recommend her to any writer to anyone at the academy.
Had a brief incident where I couldnít access the zoom meeting. Alyssa Jennette gave me a call, assured me it was alright, and that next time I could just email her back. It was my first time doing a critique and I really appreciated the extra time Alyssa didnít even have to give me! She stayed a little bit later, and even sent me notes. Her insight was valuable and is going to help pave my way into the writing world. It was nice to have a chat from one illustrator to another.
As a first-time novelist new to the entire query process, Chelsey was extraordinarily helpful. She provided very insightful feedback to my query letter and answered some other questions I had in the entire manuscript process. I am thrilled to have been able to talk to her and gain valuable knowledge.
Samantha give me very insightful line by line comments so that I could tighten the point of view of my characters and bring more clarity to their thoughts and dialogue.
Savannah Brooks gave me concrete advice which helped me transform my MG fantasy novelís beginning to make the world more real for readers. She also graciously answered my follow-up questions during our call.
Caitlin was more than instrumental with helping me see where my book is. She spotted exactly what is “wrong” with the execution of my novel–the writing felt more like a screenplay. And with my years of working and studying the art of scriptwriting… that REALLY hit home. In the two days since our zoom meeting, I’ve gone back to my novel with a new set of eyes thanks to Caitlin. In short, it was one of those life/career-changing meetings, where someone told me exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you, Manuscript Academy for letting us writers reach out directly to editors and agents. As for me, if Caitlin had not said what she said, I’d still ne banging my head against the wall and wondering why no fish are biting. I am sure she has saved me years of frustration.
Eric was professional, knowledgeable, supportive, and generous. When I first submitted my query, he sent notes and first impressions back right away, which ultimately made our ten minutes together feel like acres of time.
The query/first pages critique was invaluable. It wasn’t just a fresh pair of eyes, but those eyes were experienced in reading queries and first pages. Anjannette was able to show me exactly where, and why, things broke down and how to go about fixing it. She also pointed out what worked and gave me some industry vocabulary to use in describing my manuscript. She was extremely personable and interested. It was just a nice, informative chat about my work. What writer doesn’t like to do that?
She was brilliant – lovely – she had so much knowledge and she tried to give me as much as time allowed. I feel really good about my query now.
Jessica was incredibly helpful during our call. She went above and beyond with comments on my query and manuscript’s first thirty pages, highlighting areas where I am doing well in addition to where I can improve. I want to make my book the best it can be before sending it to agents, and Jessica’s guidance has given me a jumping-off point that will help me do just that. Whether I land an agent with this book or not, I would recommend working with Jessica either way, as her feedback will help me in future manuscripts as well as my work-in-progress.
I had a ten-minute query review with Amy Bishop and found it to be very helpful. I’ve been struggling with how to pitch my novel to show what makes it different, yet not give away too much of the plot, and I felt like I was in a never-ending rabbit-hole of revisions, and nothing was hitting the mark. Amy helped me zero in on what wasn’t working – so hopefully I can be more successful with my next round of queries.
