Reframing the Pitching Mindset
My query-letter consult with Katharine Sands was absolutely fantastic. She immediately zeroed in on what could be improved in my pitch and helped me see why it might not be landing. She also offered a lot of encouragement by pointing out what worked, and she provided insights into pitching that went well beyond my query letter. I chose her because in her MA class she talks about thinking of the pitch as a way to SHARE your work vs. as a pressure-filled vehicle to SELL it, and that really resonated with me. I felt comfortable sharing my work with her, and I am confident that her insights will make my query letter WAY stronger.

Clarifying Key Query Letter Focus
Caitlin did a written critique of my query letter and then I followed up with a 10 minute meeting with her to review my re-write. Both experiences were very beneficial and encouraging. I have been struggling with understanding what topics from my novel that I should emphasize in my query letter and Caitlin’s comments provided the final key to knowing what to focus on.

Pinpointing What Needs Work
Caitlin was great! This was my second time using her for a consultation – once with my first page and then again with my query – and she’s been very helpful both times. She points right to the parts that need the most work, while also highlighting the best bits of each. Boosted My Confidence and Writing
Jessica Watterson represents several authors whom I adore, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to have her review my query letter. She shared some incredibly helpful tweaks. Additionally, we talked a little about my book’s premise. From that and from my query letter, she had an inspired idea about my book’s title! This, in turn, is spurring me to tweak my novel ever-so-slightly. Most of all, she buttressed my self-confidence. Putting your writing out into the world can be terrifying; and to get such a warm, supportive reception from someone who knows what’s what absolutely made my day. She Never Disappoints
I’ve used Caitlin for two other novels and she never disappoints. This was the opening page of my third novel, and she gave me some great advice on how not to distract the reader with too much information, or in this case, the wrong information for the very beginning.
