Although Dani SegelbaumÃs vivisection of my query was in-depth, she was so congenial that there was no need for Novocain. She gave me pinpoint suggestions that helped me streamline the pitch and make the prose clearer. An extra set of eyes is invaluable to any writeróespecially when the task is the dreaded query letteróand DaniÃs perspective allowed me to see the letter as the opening of a dialogue. She is as smart and focused as she is kind.

Days ahead of my Query + 30-Page Read + 30-Minute Consultation with Eric Smith, he sent me my pages with copious comments. If thatÃs all I got from Eric, IÃd have been thrilled. His attention to detail, astute insights, and fantastic recommendations helped me tighten and enhance the all-important opening pages. So add the meeting to that, and I felt like I hit the jackpot. He is a really generous, kind, empathetic human being who clearly enjoys helping writers. Eric’s notes offered encouragement; in the meeting, Eric offered warm compassion. He’s just a wonderful human being.

My consultation with Kelly was fantastic. She helped confirm for me a problem I saw in the work and gave me great advice for moving forward. I came out of the meeting knowing I had a lot of work to do but feeling confident about my project and eager to get back to it.
Claire was an absolute doll! She was so friendly and gave meaningful and thoughtful feedback on my query page. I felt seen and heard. If you want someone who really listens and understands what you are trying to convey in your query but help streamlining it, she is perfect!
Fiona is an extremely competent and helpful literary agent!!! I came away from our meeting with exactly what I needed to continue refining my book. She made me feel comfortable and confident. Thank you again Fiona!
The consultation with Maeve was fantastic! The insight she provided really helped me see the opening of my manuscript in a new light.
The consultation with Savannah went well. She shared her feedback on my query letter and pages. Savannah also talked with me about the industry and her thoughts on my work in the marketplace.
Eric was wonderful! Even though it was a live consultation, he was thoughtful enough to send a few written comments ahead of time to provide context for the conversation so we could hit the ground running. And he was so friendly and insightful during the conversation – it was a fantastic experience all around! Highly recommend 🙂
Kayla was incredible. She started off by asking what my goals were for the session, tailoring the experience based on what I wanted to achieve. My primary goal was to determine if my writing sample lined up with the expectations created by my query. She explained how the description of my character in the query prepared the reader for the sample. She did this by pointing out specific sentences in the query and sample. Her analysis was spot on. And she was just a cool person who, by the end of the 15 minutes, made me feel excited to get back to querying because of her enthusiasm and care. She also eased some anxiety about timelines: 6 weeks into querying is still in the “infant stages.” This was a helpful orientation of how time moves in this process. I would highly recommend Kayla.
Emmy was very friendly, positive, and encouraging. She gave me great advice for my query and some insightful perspectives on the story. I enjoyed it very much.
Anjanette’s input was very useful. She had specific suggestions that made the pages better and we talked about the Sci Fi genre in general to help me know how to address specific topics within the novel. I will be happy to consult with her again.
Linda gave me so much insight in such a short amount of time! The ability to see your story from an agent’s eyes tells you so much about what’s working, what’s not, and where to focus your energy. Before chatting with Linda, I was trying to read into form rejections and make wild guesses about why my query wasn’t landing. Even with an awesome critique group and editor, I never could have known about the specific sensitivities within the publishing industry Linda helped me see. She gave me ideas for tweaking the query and manuscript in a kind, thoughtful way. Thanks Linda!
