Feedback And Reviews
100% Recommend!
Caitlin was amazing. She had concrete, actionable feedback for my query letter. She explained why she made the suggestions she did, and her explanations made sense and 100% fit with my story and goals. 100% would recommend her to anyone needing feedback on their query letters.
Provides Insightful First Page Feedback
Hi Jessica and Julie,
Jessica, I want to thank you for your thoughtful comments on Catch a Falling Star. I know you went above and beyond in the time you gave me and I really appreciate it. I couldn’t believe how insightful you were, just from looking at the first page. Many of your ideas about where the story should go were close to what is in the manuscript, and gave me further thoughts and ideas about how to improve it. I will certainly continue to use Manuscript Academy and recommend it to my writing friends–you guys are great! (I’m also wondering if you have any time to critique more pages in the future. It doesn’t seem like you have time available on the calendar and I do understand that, but thought I’d ask 🙂
Again, thank you so much,
Meg
Boosts Confidence with Revision Strategy
Amy was so friendly, and had such great helpful, honest feedback. I came away from my consult feeling confident in my revision strategy, and one step closer to where I want my book to be. She answered all my questions, and understood my pages and my goals for my story.
Gives Market Insights and Encouragement
My consultation with Stacey Graham was fantastic! In addition to some specific, actionable feedback on the pages I submitted, she gave me valuable insight on the marketplace and how it is probably affecting my submissions. I came away feeling much better about my current state and moving forward. Thanks, Stacey!
Clarifies Query and Genre Strategy
Ms. McDonald was extremely helpful and encouraging. In 10 minutes she addressed my main question about how to structure the query and provided insight on how she looks at genre/subgenre. These consultation sessions are an invaluable resource for any author planning to submit their work to agents.
Reveals Overlooked Story Weaknesses
The critique with Samantha was so helpful and in unexpected ways! In the flurry of writing a writer can sometimes overlook the most obvious problems, which was the case during this critique. As always, these critique opportunities provided by The Manuscript Academy have proven to be invaluable to my progress.
Pushes for Breakthrough Novel Revision
Fiona was wonderful! She is so nice and personable. It was a very fruitful 10 minutes. She had both positive feedback as well as suggestions for making my novel and query letter (which we talked about; she didn’t see it) better – pushing me to really consider something I’d been resistant to doing. It resulted in a breakthrough for me, with a new idea of how to rework/reorder my novel in a way I think will result in a better work overall.
Also, it meant so much to have a literary agent “get” what I was trying to do with that first page. Having received a good number of form rejections without knowing the reason for those passes, to hear praise from a literary agent was so encouraging.
Provides Hope and Industry Insights
Jessica was so helpful to me yesterday during my 15-minute consultation. She answered every question I had with her knowledge and experience. I left the consultation feeling hopeful about my work and about the industry for the first time in a while. I am so grateful to her.
Explains Querying and Comp Titles
I learned so much from my consultation with John Cusick! As someone who has spent the last six years in STEM, I have very limited experience with creative writing/publishing. John was able to give me a lot of pointers for improving my query letter, and I now have a better understanding of the term ‘comp titles’.
Pinpoints Exact Query Improvements
Stehanie honed in exactly on what I needed to do to polish up my query. It’s amazing what can be learned in just ten minutes. Thanks Stephanie!
Strengthens Query and Story Focus
I booked a consultation with Jennifer for help on my query letter. She not only helped make the query letter better, she pinpointed specific areas of my story where I could strengthen and improve the manuscriptójust from the query! Very helpful ten-minute session, and I highly recommend her.
Clarifies Querying Hurdle with Precision
I reached a wall in my querying process and needed to speak to an industry professional about what I was doing wrong. I requested a consultation with Molly Cusick because I appreciated her vast experience as both an agent and an editor. She was exceptionally professional and straightforward. She complimented me on my work, which was lovely, but she was very, very clear about the hurdle I faced. Fifteen minutes is so brief, and I loved that she did not dawdle with small talk or fluffy nonsense. When I found myself pondering further questions after our conversation, I wrote to her and she promptly replied with a lengthy, insightful message. She is fantastic.
