Reframing Queries for Better Flow
Alyssa was fabulous. Asked questions that helped me understand where I am in my development not so much in novel writing but in query skills. She totally helped reframe the plot description so it flows a little better.

Astute Feedback on First Pages
I was so happy to get Kayla Lightner’s take on the first ten pages of my novel. She offered really astute insights and suggestions. I was concerned that what I was trying to create, in terms of the voice, was not on key, and Kayla provided more than the feedback I needed. Her comments were clear, which of course was helpful–but on top of that she was warm and encouraging. My only regret is that the conversation couldn’t have lasted longer. It was a delightful fifteen minutes.

Magician with Advice and Insights
At our meeting, Lane Heymont proved himself to be a magician. I filled several pages of notes with his information and insights, yet in the short time he didn’t seem the least bit rushed. He answered questions, addressed my doubts, and in the end was encouraging and patient. From my research, I know he’s a successful agent; but after our meeting, I know he’s a gifted teacher.
Clear, Kind, and Expert Guidance
The query consult with Caitlin was a terrific experience. She delivered clear insights and specific suggestions–and did so with kindness. I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to receive her expert feedback.

New Approach to Query Writing
She gave me SUCH good ideas and completely changed the way I think about writing a query. She also made me feel better about the “rules” and telling the heart of the story.

Honest Insights and Encouragement
In our ten minute chat, Rachel was warm, welcoming and generous with her time. She showed enthusiasm for my project while conveying some of the harsh realities of the publishing industry. She answered all my question and gave great suggestions for my query. My thanks to Rachel and The Manuscript Academy team!

Confidence to Start Querying
Meeting with Saba was a great experience. She was down-to-earth, positive, and gave me the confidence I needed to begin querying!

Spot-On Feedback and Advice
It was a great pleasure chatting with Fiona. She was spot-on about my submission and gave me wonderful pointers and advice – plus she’s a dog lover so my pup, Zinnia, was invited into the Zoom and enjoyed meeting her as well!

Insightful and Encouraging Critique Sessions
I met with Melissa Warten for the 10 minute query critique. I enjoyed working with her, so I came back for a 15 minute 10 page critique. Melissa is fantastic. I feel like I have a strong idea of what I’ve done well and what I need to work on. She is very approachable and extremely clear with her feedback. It is evident Melissa is passionate about literature. She arrives to the sessions prepared and excited to discuss the writer’s work. I highly recommend these sessions!

Constructive Feedback Enhances Writing
Caitlin had carefully read my ten pages and offered suggestions I could easily understand and incorporate without losing the integrity of my work. I found the session helpful and began editing after letting her directions settle. I have now rewritten the first chapter and feel it is improved. She was always courteous and on point.

Guidance for Aspiring Author
My consultation with Rachel was just what I need at the moment – direct feedback from an experienced industry professional. To date, my writing has been a creative brain to paper exercise, which has been rewarding. Rachel’s review of my first ten pages, and subsequent consultation, provided me with guidance on structure, and the show don’t tell writing style that I have been eagerly searching for. I hope some day to be an accomplished author of MG novels. Even then, I am sure that I would still learn a lot from Rachel.

Refining Memoir Query Process
Hannah helped me to redefine a query for my current Memoir-in-Progress. By listening to her questions based on my query, I was able to sharpen my query letter and to clarify my mission statement for editors and agents creating a stronger outline for my project.
