I thought the consultation was extremely helpful in how I need to rewrite my query letter. Alyssa also went over some things to help me elevate my first page. Like the type of language I need to use to push it into the realm of Adult diction, instead of the in-between YA and Adult that I have right now. I believe that I’ve benefitted from the whole experience. Would recommend it to anyone that can afford it.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for the query and ten-pages review with Renee Fountain, Gondolpho, Helin & Fountain. Renee addressed several questions before I asked them. Along with positive feedback, she pointed out ways to polish my work that will affect the entire manuscript. These are concrete issues I can address and proceed to my next round of queries with a better product and more confidence.

It is so easy to doubt your decisions and have no idea if what you’re doing is powerful or effective. No one has the perspective an agent does on a query.
Dani’s suggestions for my letter and the first ten pages of my LGBTQ memoir were solid and specific. It took me a few days to figure out how to put them in place but I did and know the suggestions improved my opening immensely. (I only wish I’d scheduled a few days earlier, BEFORE I got a full request…)
This consultation made a difference in my approach and my confidence. There’s a bit less flail to my walk this week. Thank you!

First of all, a special thank you to Manuscript Academy and Kelly for agreeing to do a speciality live critique of my snyopsis. Kelly Van Sant dove deep into my plot and helped me show the world of the main character before the inciting incident. She also encouraged me to bring up the main theme of the novel earlier. I’m so grateful for her assistance in making my snyopsis as polished as possible before a conference submission to an editor.

Kayla was so prepared. Her suggestions were direct, her explanations for deleting sentences in the query letter, moving sentences around for clarity and tightness were beyond helpful. Her attitude was upbeat, can do, and the session left me ready to deep dive back into the manuscript and query letter to turn Rejection into Acceptance. She noted where she loved my concept, a, certain lines I had written and also left me feeling so positive about my work. All this in 10 minutes! She is the consummate professional and with this also emits a warmth and collegiality which I so relish as a writer. Best session ever and I highly recommend both her and this process.
