Stephanie Stein, Senior Editor at Tor/Macmillan

Stephanie Stein is a Senior Editor at Tor Books. Before joining the Tor team, she spent eleven years in marketing and editorial roles at HarperCollins Children’s Books, where she worked with acclaimed and bestselling YA and middle grade authors including Sarah Underwood, Shveta Thakrar, Ava Reid, Mark Oshiro, and Michael Leali, and was also the lead editor of Erin Hunter’s #1 bestelling Warriors series.

For her list at Tor, Stephanie is acquiring science fiction, fantasy, and fantasy romance for adult readers. She loves a smartly conceived retelling, an ornery dragon, a magical school, or a hypercompetent assassin, and she’s on the hunt for irresistibly cool magic, space opera that travels to strange new worlds and civilizations, and romance that uses speculative elements to heighten the emotional stakes and make you feel all the feels.

I had the opportunity to complete a 75 page review with Stephanie Stein. Meeting with a reputable editor in the industry was an amazing opportunity. I am very thankful for her feedback on improving pace, clarifying certain aspects of stakes and world-building, and refocusing the lens/direction of my opening pages. Ms. Stein also provided other recommendations of things I wouldnít have even considered for character development and scene transitions that I will keep in mind for writing in general.

Thank you so much for the opportunity for feedback! This was another useful and productive session. Stephanie Stein gave me concrete, actionable feedback to implement in both my pages and query in an organized fashion. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to speak with her and my previous critique with Blair Thornburgh. Blair’s concise suggestions and Stephanie’s market knowledge and useful notes for my pages and query will help me improve my query package. Thank you for the opportunity to improve my writing with experiences with such seasoned professionals.
