Bridget Smith, Agent at JABberwocky Literary Agency

Bridget Smith has been an agent at JABberwocky Literary Agency since 2019. She grew up in Connecticut and graduated from Brown University with a BA in anthropology in 2010. After graduation, she interned at Don Congdon Associates, worked at a secondhand bookstore, and read submissions for Tor.com. In 2011, she started as an assistant at Dunham Literary, and she remained there as an agent until moving over to JABberwocky.

Bridget represents both YA and adult fiction. In YA she handles all genres but has a soft spot for emotion-driven contemporary (books about teenage girls having feelings) and smart, sophisticated fantasy. In adult, her main focus is SFF, particularly historical fantasy, epic fantasy, space opera, and romantic SFF, but she also loves literary historical fiction, contemporary fiction with genre elements, and smart funny rom-coms.

The consultation with Bridget provided me with a clear direction for my manuscript and cleared out any insecurities with answers to my questions.

Bridget was incredibly helpful with critiquing my query letter. I had areas of concern that I knew needed assistance and she hit on every one with great tips on how to improve. All of her criticism was constructive and worded in a way that could be used to better my query. Any questions I had she was able to answer fully. I feel substantially more confident moving forward with my querying thanks to her feedback.

Query Questions

Last week I had a 10 minute review of my query letter with Bridget Smith. She was pleasant, kind, funny, and most of all very helpful. The time goes super fast and she packed a lot of great tips into it. She told me what not to change, what wasn’t needed, and what to beef up a bit. Though we only talked about my query letter, her comments have me thinking of ways to better my pitch and synopsis as well. Very happy with how it went. Thanks, Bridget.
