She not only gave encouraging feedback but helped to clarify what was going wrong, where I could trim, how to fix the comps and positioning in the market. Exactly the Feedback I Needed!
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I submitted the first 100 pages of *Silence and Neutrality* to Amy. After so much writing, researching, rewriting, and second-guessing myself, I wanted someone with professional experience to tell me what was working and what wasn’t.
Amy did exactly that! She paid attention to my characters, historical setting, tension, and even the complicated language barriers I’d worked so hard to create. She recognized what I was trying to accomplish while pointing out where I needed to clarify things or tighten my writing.
What I appreciated most was that her feedback was encouraging without being empty praise. She told me what she enjoyed but also asked questions that made me stop and think. A few times I wanted to answer her right there in the margins! HAHA!
I came away feeling encouraged but knowing I still have work to do. That’s exactly what I wanted. I wasn’t looking for someone to tell me my book was perfect. I wanted someone to help me make it better.
I’m already making revisions and would absolutely recommend Amy!

Like a really smart friend
I met with Erica twice—first securing solid actionable suggestions, then to see how I did with the revisions. Both times she was brilliant, her experience and knowledge unmistakable. She was also positive and kind with empathy for the journey of a writer. After the calls, my notes look like roadmaps. Would absolutely recommend!

Meeting with Erica Bauman
Erica Bauman gave me excellent, insightful feedback on my query letter and my pages. She walked me through the query letter paragraph by paragraph and pointed out specific places where I could sharpen my description of the stakes for a couple of my characters, tighten the letter, and clarify some spots where I’d compressed too much plot description in the service of keeping my word count low. I appreciated her positive response to my pages, which gave me confidence in my decision to start the book with a prologue. Erica’s comments were direct, honest and thoughtful. It was a very helpful conversation.

Everything I Needed to Know

Bridget was fly
I had a query consultation with Bridget last Tuesday, and she was great. Talking over the stakes of the story inspired me to move up a section of a scene later in the novel up to the beginning. My novel now has a new 3-page beginning that I and my beta reader find intense, gripping, and which is centered in secondary-world fantasy, before my previous “poetic and beautiful… compelling, eerie with a lyrical vibe” beginning (as another MSWL Academy agent described it in my recent first-page consultation). Professional, helpful, and kind
I had a first-page query consultation with Samantha. Since, on the basis of my recent query consultation with another MSWL Academy agent, I had changed up my original first page (moving up some material from later in the novel to the beginning), she was nice enough to listen to the “new” first page (which she liked overall) before going over her written comments on the “old” first page (which is now p. 4 in the novel). I found her comments smart, kind, and helpful overall. I’d recommend her to other writers for sure. Thank you, Samantha!

Fantastic, In-Depth Feedback
I had a 15-min consult with Larissa about my query and first ten pages. She targeted her response to what I was most concerned about, and then went a step further, suggesting some possible fixes. Then she suggested a bigger change to the story that she felt would make it more compelling, and would also eliminate some of the problems I was struggling with in the opening. I wasn’t sure about making such a big change, so I slept on it for awhile, but I have since started actioning her feedback and it is absolutely making both my overall arc and my opening pages stronger. Larissa was friendly, collaborative, and her insights were spot-on. I’d highly recommend her for a consult!
